Tour №13
Lankaran,
Azerbaijan subtropics

In Azerbaijan, small in its territory, 9 out of 11 types of climate are observed in the world. In the south of the country, a real citrus paradise reigns - humid subtropics are observed here. In this part of Azerbaijan, an iron tree grows, tea, kiwi, tangerines are cultivated, and such rare birds as pink flamingos fly to winter. Lankaran - one of the most beautiful and largest cities in Azerbaijan is located in this amazing region. In the southeastern part of Azerbaijan, on the coast of the Caspian Sea, there is one of the most beautiful and ancient cities of the republic - Lankaran. There is everything for tourism here. And warm sea with unique and healing black quartz sand. Mountains covered with relict forests. Rivers and waterfalls. And also plantations where tea, kiwi, lemons, tangerines are grown. And the cuisine of this region is simply unique. The way to Lankaran along a new, well-maintained road will take us about 3 hours. Arriving in Lankaran, we will walk along the coast of the Caspian Sea, which is distinguished here by its black sand due to its volcanic origin.

Then we will visit the city sights. The House of Mirahmad Khan is located right in the center of the city. This palace was built in 1913. It is noteworthy that the architects of the building were the French, which did not prevent them from applying all the skill and beauty of oriental architecture during its construction. Khan-Evi (Khan's house) was built in three floors and became the first multi-storey city building. The history of the khan's house is quite interesting and eventful. Mirakhmad Khan ordered to build a palace for his wife Tughra, in honor of her victory in the beauty contest of the Transcaucasus. One of the symbols of the city is the Lankaran fortress, built in the 18th century, during the Talysh Khanate.

In the old days, this fortification looked impregnable, it was the main khan's fortress with two defensive towers, strong walls with jagged edges and a deep moat, which, if necessary, was filled with water. To date, fragments of the fortress have survived, as well as two ancient mosques built on its territory and still not losing their cult appeal among Muslims. We will also see a working lighthouse. The lighthouse tower is, in fact, part of the Lankaran fortress and was built simultaneously with all the fortifications. During the Russian Empire, the tower was completed and began to be used as a lighthouse.
We will see the fields where tea, lemons, kiwi are grown. Then we will taste a unique dish of local cuisine "Levenghi", which is prepared mainly from fish and chicken, with a special filling. After lunch we will visit the Hyrcanian National Park. In it you can see various exotic plants, animals and just relax in the fresh air. On the territory of the park there is Khanbulan, which is called in different ways: a river, a lake, a reservoir. Here you can taste real Lankaran tea.
