During this tour we will take a trip back to prehistoric times. We will visit a modern interactive museum in the village of Gobustan. The reserve, where the sites of ancient people and rock carvings, living in different periods on this territory, starting from the 15th millennium BC, were discovered. up to the Middle Ages. A rather unusual phenomenon awaits you - active mud volcanoes. The temple of fire worshipers, at various times revered by Zoroastrians, Hindus and Sikhs. We will see a pink lake or a dead lake of Absheron. And Yanardag - a mountain that has been burning for several centuries.
An exciting excursion will start from the Gobustan reserve. You will visit the modern interactive museum of the park in the village of Gobustan, where you will find superbly selected expositions using the most modern technology that will help You will find out the meaning of petroglyphs (rock paintings). You will be able to see rock paintings that will tell you about the culture, economy, customs of people living in different periods of history on this territory, starting from the 15th millennium BC. up to the Middle Ages. Once the sea splashed right at the foot of these mountains, but then retreated, leaving characteristic relief traces on the polished rocks. Also found here are ancient primitive dwellings - caves and sites. In the 1st century, the XII legion of the Roman emperor Domitian visited the territory of Gobustan, as evidenced by the rock inscription in Latin on the Boyukdash mountain.
There are mud volcanoes not far from the Gobustan reserve. Martian landscapes and many active mud volcanoes await you. The largest number of mud volcanoes in the world is concentrated in the territory of Azerbaijan, about 60%. Sometimes these volcanoes create small islands in the Caspian. However, these volcanoes are completely safe. In the largest of them, the host of the program “Heads and Tails” even took mud baths.
On the way back, lunch at a fish restaurant is possible. Here you can order fish from the Caspian Sea. It is caught in a nearby coastal village. We will also visit the Bibi-Heybat Mosque. You will learn about the unusual history of the creation of this mosque, which for several centuries was considered one of the main shrines of the Islamic world. We stand at the world's first oil well, from which the world industrial oil production began. This event took place in Baku already in 1848.
The next point of our excursion will be the temple of fire worshipers, which at various times was revered by Zoroastrians, Hindus and Sikhs. It arose in the 17th-18th centuries. in place of "eternal" inextinguishable fires - burning outlets of natural gas, due to which the temple is called "Ateshgah", which means "House of Fire", "Place of Fire".
During the excursion we will visit the salt lake Masazir. It is also called pink or dead lake. There are only eight lakes with pink water in the world, and one of them is located in Azerbaijan. Depending on the light and the concentration of salt in the water, the lake takes on different shades of pink. The end point of our excursion will be Yanardag - a burning mountain. This is a rare phenomenon that has been observed here for several centuries. It was also reported by Marco Polo.
As a bonus, if you wish, you can visit the oriental bazaar, where you can buy various sweets, dried fruits, nuts, spices and even natural black caviar, having tasted all this in advance while drinking natural Lankaran tea.
